Well, I know that there are no excuses for laziness but we have been busy. We had a slammed summer with so many teams from the states and then building our team here in Otavalo. We have a great start on our project in San Juan Alto. A project that will help women and children and eventually become a training center of future pastors of their own communities high in the mountains of Ecuador. We have a great task in front of us, establishing relationships in Quichua communities where there are no churches whatsoever.
We are in the beginning stages of getting a recorded version of the NT in the Quichua Imbaburra language. We have been working with Faith Comes By Hearing and we are just about ready to start. It has taken almost a year to even get the approval and signature to begin. Now all things are in place and we need your help. If you are interested in helping fund this project, please send me an email and I will give you more details on how you can proceed.
Here are some statistics - where we live, between 75% and 80% of the people are functionally illiterate. For the last 2 years we have been trying to get a bible in print for these people. However, since then we have learned about their inability to read and comprehend. So, now that is not even a good option. With this audio version we will be able to go into communities and establish relationships with people that have never heard the gospel of Jesus before. How exciting is that? This audio version will be downloaded onto an SD card which will then be placed into a Proclaimer. The proclaimer is a speaker box that needs no batteries. It is both solar powered and also with a small hand crank generator. It is smaller than a shoe box and has the power to reach 100-150 people. Once we are in a community or village, we will prayerfully select a person to be in charge of this Proclaimer. They will be in charge of its care and they will be responsable to play the bible at least 30 minutes a day. With 30 min/day, within one year they will have had the opportunity to hear the entire NT.
We are so excited about what God is doing here. However the enemy is fighting us around every corner. Philippians 4:13 says - I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Colossians 4:3-4 says - and pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
These are some of the scriptures that we stand on daily. Pray for us and we thank you for all that you do.
